Officially the "Republic of the Grand Fate of the Fading Isles", the Grand Fate was born of a civil war in the Fading Isles. If its creation was attributed to a single act, this would probably be the banishment of the IMC from the Fading Isles. This eventually caused the Duchy of Iuna to declare independence from the Fading Isles on 2-2-6, the County of Hawks following on 2-4-1, and both formalizing the Grand Fate on 2-4-5, with the Duchy of Mercia joining on 2-6-5.

It is believed to be the first realm created in the second year of Might & Fealty, and was also the first sovereign realm to set itself up as a formal republic.

Quick Overview

The Republic of the Grand Fate of the Fading Isles a realm born out of the collaboration of several high level entities within the Fading Isles after various actions of that realm's ruler.

Officially it is a form of Republic, where distinctions are made between the realms that are members.

Diplomatic meetings between your realm and the entirety of the Grand Fate should be directed to the Praesul, our Speaker of the Realm.

Complete Overview

There are three categories of realms within the Republic: Assembly Realms, Associate Realms, and Unassociated Realm.

Assembly Realms are realms that have formally and completely joined the Grand Fate. Realms are voted into this status by the Grand Council, usually after being an Associate Realm.

Associate Realms are realms undergoing a probationary period. This is not to say they are part of the Republic, but that they are single being reviewed by the Assembly before being fully admitted, and formal admittance may come with requirements that they end current wars or prove they are committed to our ideals, for example. The Republic Assembly will vote realms into this status.

Unassociated Realms are those that have simply found someone that was part of the realm and said "I want to be with you". Technically, they're not even considered an actual part of the Republic yet, but they've indicated a willingness to become an Assembly Member. To gain Assembly Status they must request a vote by the Assembly on the matter. A simple majority is required for it to pass.

Official Positions

Praesul

Current Praesul: Vanessa Calinus of the Sovereign Principality of Iungard and the Duchies of the Northern Isles
Took office as the second Praesul, by vote of the Authorities on 8-26-6, after the death of Praesul Andrew Calinus in battle.

The Preasul is the elected representative of the Republic of the Grand Fate of the Fading Isles, a "Speaker of the Realm", if you will. The Praesul holds the right of "Vox Prima", which grants them authority to control when votes are conducted. To outside realms the Praesul acts as the representative of all realms that are a part of the Grand Fate and as a representative of the Assembly to those that are part of the Republic. It is an elected position with no set term length or limit. The only requirements are that the Praesul must be the leader of one of the Assembly Realms of the Republic.

Imperator

Current Imperator: Vacant

The military head of the Republic of the Grand Fate, coordinating its defenses in times of peace and its entire military in times of war. As their position authorizes them to know the military standing of the Republic, they are forbidden from partaking in any conflicts within the Grand Fate. Specifically, they are to engage in all conflicts with measured force, a tempered hand, and just retribution. Together these mean that the goal of conflict is not total destruction, complete domination, or hollow victories, but honorable warfare.

Chancellor

Current Commandant: John Hawksmoor

The Chancellor of the Grand Fate acts and the singular judicial authority in the realm for the broad majority of legal cases. They are equivalent to the High Judge found in other realms. While it is a judicial position, there are a number of rules laid out about how courts must be held depending on whom the accused is.

Realm Memberships

The Assembly
Assembly Member Realms
Mercia - Iungard - Caladia - Farvick League - Fairshore
Assembly Realms are realms that have been granted full membership within the Republic and take part in the governance of the Republic. These realms enjoy the security of being defensible portions of the Republic while also being expected to uphold Republic laws.
Associate Realms
None Presently
Associate Realms are those realms that have been admitted to the Republic but are undergoing a probationary period, to ensure a smooth transition and stable merge into the Republic. They are neither part of the Republic, nor not part of it, existing somewhere between the two otherwise clear definitions. To fully become an Assembly Realm requires a simply majority of the Grand Council.
Unassociated Realms
None Presently
Unassociated Realms are those realms that have seen the glory and might of the Republic and wish to be a part of it. They have gone so far as to bureaucratically join the republic, but not far enough to be recognized within as an Assembly Realm. Such an action requires a simple (51%+) vote in favor from the Assembly.

Knightly Orders

At present, there are unfortunately, no Knightly Orders that exist within the Republic.

Laws

Military Obligations

Generally considered to be the heart of the Republic, the Military Obligations of it are also why most realms join. Simply put, in the event of a military action by a foreign realm against either an Assembly Realm, all Assembly Realms are obligated to go to war on their behalf. An important note is made that this does not limit the realm's called to purely defensive actions either.

Offensive wars and Unassociated Realms receive no such obligation of support.
